The N900 lets you tether up with a cable, blue tooth, or over wifi without needing to "root" anything. I hate that Android devices don't give you control of your own hardware OOTB and you need to hack to gain full access. |

I am not familiar with Android phone, but am I correct to assume that "rooting" it means you are running the entire OS as root. Wouldn't that expose the device to serious security risks? I don't think I want to buy any phone device that I have to root or jailbreak to use its full potential. Let the user have the power to begin with. |

"Rooting" means getting a root shell. Once you have that, you can do as you wish, up to and including bricking it. |

I see, thanks for clearing that up anyway. I much prefer that they call it "su -'ed", instead of rooted. |

Yes, I understand it has a somewhat off-color meaning in Aussie slang. |

It also has a marginally less off colour meaning, mainly because it shares the same definition with F...ed scr..ed, and "given the D.ck", meaning broken. that's other reason why I never refer to my Android as rooted, even though I now have root access. When I dropped my iPhone, my I be forgiven for ever buying one, it was rooted, but I was able to claim for it on my householder's insurance. |
