The last time I was in a LaQuinta, I was lucky to have VirtualBox with WinXP, because their wifi authentication would work with NOTHING other than Internet Exploder. (I've never installed I.E. under WINE, not being a flagellant) Two weeks ago I left on a trip up to New Hampshire for PorcFest, and found that wifi authentication worked just fine everywhere I found it, (Border's Books, MacD's, and the atrociously bad GAW.com) using Konqueror or FireFox(Icewoozle). Things have gotten so very much better for the non-denominational system user. |

Carla, what kind of microphone (and interface and stand, if you needed them) did you use for the fiddle recordings? I'm desperately trying to gather as much info on recording as I can (and yes, I will be getting your book http://nostarch.com/audacity.htm on release day.) |

Steven, it's an Audio Technica PRO 24 stereo condenser microphone. Super nice little mic with its own battery, so you don't need phantom power. Ordinary mic stand with weighted base, which I like better than a tripod base. I heart adult toys :) |

I found a link to this: http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mics/97a500a93cd279a... That is exactly what I'm looking for. This configuration features a hot-shoe mount for camcorders .... |

Here it is on Zzounds, my fave audio goodies shopping site: http://www.zzounds.com/item--AUTPRO24 $69.95, free shipping. These days most any sound chip is pretty decent, even when built-in speakers or mics are junk, so getting good headphones and an external mic is like an instant upgrade. |

That was the question I forgot to ask -- where you buy this stuff. Now that the fiscal year is over, I'm supposed to be allowed to buy stuff, and this is closer to the magic number (i.e. anything under $100). Now I can start pricing it out. Thanks! |
