I probably should have made the title "addon needs user configuration feature".

For now you are forced to use Google in SSL mode without a quick way to disable it because sometimes you need to use the image search and maps (http only). It would be better to use the addon GoogleSharing which allow you to connect to Google through a proxy, then type h t t p s : / / google.com in the address bar when needed.

And I bet Google is still recording all the info you pass through https anyway. It protects from third party sneaking, but not from Google itself. So if you are paranoid you will need a proxy + https.
