Well not necessarily Android. If Linux is associated with "everything must be free", as in free beer, then market your Linux Tablet differently. Don't mention Linux. Android is getting really good press over here, wher e tech pundits are calling it the iPhone killer... because your can personalise everything, there are so many "apps" for it, and you can install almost any"app" that will fit, and on and on and on. And we know that Android is Linux with Marketing tags attached. |

I don't know who associates Linux with free as in freeloader. Red Hat makes healthy profits year after year selling to Linux business users. Ubuntu's strategy seems to be to do the same to consumers, whether it's selling music or online storage. Simon Brew essentially makes that point: just because the OS is free doesn't mean he or anyone else should expect to get copyrighted material for free, whether it's a music mp3 or an e-book. It seems to me that the perception of Linux is what needs to change, not moving to a scaled back, limited functionality distro like Android that eschews the Linux name. Oh, and yeah, I don't trust Google one little bit. |
