They did this in no more than a week after the release of RHEL 5.5, that's why the author is so impressed. The quickest turn around yet on RH code. Let's see what I would do. Well I write a script searching for either "Red Hat" and / or [Tt]rademark. That can be done using either match (command or function) or something like grep to find each instance buried in the working code. Then I would / [old RH stuff] / [Glory to Oracle stuff] /s which will do in perl. This will work in php, but I thought I used another function when I did this for a project: str_match($match, $insert_text, $RH_code); So once this has run and the number of matches and substitutions seem reasonable we begin the hard part. We must run the code with a profiling tool* to first see all trademark references to Red Hat have been removed and the inserted Oracle replacements read well. A few passes and it is ready to ship, because we can rely upon Red Hat to have produced a quality product. YBT * Confirms all possible code paths are run. |
