Juliet is my hero, you never hear her going all "squeee, command lines are like all weird and stuff!" She just keeps cranking out useful howtos.

There's nothing wrong with weird or stuff.

Juliet is a real sysadmin who works with servers. Just try being a real *nix sysadmin without knowing the comand line and a fair amount of scripting. You certainly can't be a good one without those skills.

I'm still not convinced Joe and Jane User, the almost computer illiterate user that is so prevalent, needs the command line.

It's not about need, it's about usefulness. Command line is so much more useful than anything else, that I rarely touch, well, anything else, at least for file management (but for many other things too). And I'm not a sysadmin.

Exactly. I don't know why FOSS discussions always focus on non-users. Is it some kind of complex that existing FOSS users need validation by having others use FOSS as well? I don't care what non-users like (especially the precious Windows users). I want the best OS. If we get rid of everything that's not in Windows, we just end up with Windows. The command line is extremely valuable.

I tend to lean your way, even though I will not give up my command line until somebody pries it from my cold, dead hands.

if you know the commands, command line is often easier and faster than a pile of clicks...

But GUIs really are great for things you don't do all of the time.

What about your guns? The CLI is more important? When, when did you go wrong? Why did I not stay closer when your mind went astray?

Though I will fight to the death (and my father already laid down his life) for your right to bear arms, I don't own a single gun.

I do, however, have a German Shepherd with very nice teeth.
