It is one thing to rid the market of illegal (say copyright infringing) apps... But I can't abide by a quest for censorship of legal adult material. If you don't want to view it, fine -- don't buy it. If you want to block children from access to it, there are ways to do that. But for law abiding adults, I find it extremely offensive for people to push their overzealous religious views on others to try to restrict freedom for people to view whatever they want.

Why the picking on the Android market and not the iPhone or Windows Phone markets?

Because Android, being built from Linux (Free Software), is predicated on Freedom.

The primary markets for the iLoveSteveJobsPhone and the Windows "Where Do You Think You're Going Today?" Phone consist of people who place brand above freedom.

The only thing that needs to be censored are the censors themselves.

One man's porn is another man's art.

And my response is very simple: Grow up. Every medium we've ever had for communicating information has had porn. Deal with it.

My Response to Ian MacGregor. I can't post this on his blog as his comments allow 300 characters or less.

What is good and right in your mind is not necessarily Good and right in other peoples minds, nor is it necessarily Good and right.

Your desire, to remove applications from Android, or indeed the iPhone or the Windows Phone, because you personally disagree with or dilike them, takes away from me and everyone else, for that matter, the freedom to say no, the freedom to ex[er]cise their individual conscience, the freedom to choose wisely or unwisely.

The fact that you are an ordained Minister does not give you the right to dictate to anyone, not even your own congregation, and certainly not to people who do not subscribe to your beliefs. I have noticed that many of those who subscribe to your particular religious belief system often talk about tolerance and respect for the beliefs of others, especially when it is their particular beliefs that are called to question, they, as you appear to be, are not adverse to being very disrespectful of other people's beliefs.

This issue is, however not about beliefs, it is about basic freedoms, most importantly the freedom to choose, the freedom to make mistakes, the freedom to learn from those mistakes, and not be dictated to by someone who chooses (in this case to say no) differently.

If you don't like the material, don't watch it, if you think it should not be viewed by your children, don't make it available to them. If you think it should not be viewed by other people's children educate those people to choose as you have chosen.

DO NOT attempt to impose your personal views, beliefs, likes, dislikes on other people.

Better: Ever medium we've ever had was made big thanks to porn. Porn made the VHS market. Porn made the phone market. Porn made the internet. 28k8 is enough for e-mail. People needed faster modems to download dirty pictures. Only when faster hardware arrived did we also start to use it for other things like mp3 and videos.

I have long since said that if you want to make people familiar with Linux, use porn. Make a LiveCD distro specifically aimed at people who like dirty pictures. Include privoxy and tor out of the box. Make USB sticks and external hard drives encrypted. Include pornzilla (http://www.squarefree.com/pornzilla/), AdBlock and DownThemAll extensions out of the box. Market it as "The safest way to browse for porn without anyone knowing and without leaving a trace". You'll distribute millions and you can make a ton of cash off referrals.

Oh, man, they're on to me...

BTW, Sander, Tor is NOT "the best way" for all that. Have you ever tried watching YouTube through a Tor connection?

Huh? You're going to watch YouTube to see porn?

In contrary to the Android market, YouTube is censored.

That's why there's PornTube etc.

But I see what you're meaning, TOR was never intended for large amounts of traffic / large files.

Nope, I haven't used Tor at all, except once just to play with it and see what it does. I didn't try watching a video though.
