Don't think you would get away with giving this to people today. And not sure why people like us, why we would pick it over Fluxbox, which is just as fast and light and far easier to use. Its a pity, every now and then I fire it up and wonder about it, and then get irritated and go back to Flux. It was great in its day.

So you're wondering why somebody would pick it?

To be honest, I don't know, but nonetheless I've been using it for the last six years, as long as I use Linux. My reason to use it was because it was less clunky than BlackBox, which needed a separate program to just change the background, which took me two days to figure out. And when using some source-based distro, it's fast to compile (I use Gentoo, hence why that's an issue for me).

Probably I'm too lazy to switch, I guess it's just that. I almost never use the menus, I have keyboard shortcuts for Firefox and the Konsole, and everything else I start running the command in the 'Run' box or I just use the CLI. More than 90% of my file management is done from the CLI - just typing the old 'cp / mv' commands etc. Indeed, getting the icons right and some program Z reliably starting on workspace Y is a big hassle and that's why I stopped trying. Nonetheless, Linux boots "from sysbeep to working Firefox" in 30 sec (5 sec for Firefox), and WindowMaker is an important piece of my 'quick boot' (together with OpenRC, think 'upstart for Gentoo').

But it's good to hear you mention Fluxbox, I might try that if it's better / easier.

You been hanging out with Windows users again Hans? ;-)

Sorry man, you left yourself just a little too wide open there..

Hmm, easy to spot who I've been hanging out with I guess? If people 10000 miles from here know, the bad odor goes a long way I guess.
