So first, there's apt-cache cleaner.
Then, there's an Ubuntu script Next, the script will have a GUI. Then, the script will support modules, to clean Firefox / Opera cache, cookies etc. Following that, it will include 'privacy deletion'. After that, it could be enhanced with some new GUI-tab to handle daemons. Within a few years, it will be complex and unmaintainable. When used to the program, Ubuntu users won't know how to delete cruft themselves. After that, the script-writers might make the script 'freeware', and place it in the new Ubuntu closed-app store. An etc-cleaner will follow (wait, it's already in there!). Then they call it Ubuntu-washer. Basically, this is the beginning of the recreation of the Windows ecosystem for Ubuntu. The idea behind it: The user shouldn't be bothered by the cr@p on his / her system, let some app handle it instead. Then it's OK for other apps to leave more mess, Ubuntu washer will handle it. The user only has to click 'OK' and consider it done. This system supports the idea the user shouldn't know which file does what, and why those 100k+ cache files are needed. But that's a good thing. After all, a lot can be said about Windows Washer, but it is very approachable and therefore considered user friendly. Best of all, it's free. Uhm, I mean, free as in 'freeware'. |
