That Hearst E-reader looks very nice, but it's no competition for Apple's iSlate. E-readers and tablet PC's are two completely different beast. You can't have interactive graphics on an E-reader screen so it can never function as a PC. This is because of the refresh time on an E-ink display. It takes about 0.5-1 second to refresh an E-ink display. To make matters worse, usually you first need to flash the screen black or white (or both) to prevent ghosting, so you have that slow refresh times two or three to update the screen. |

E-reader does not imply E-ink. Nor vice-versa. The two do commonly overlap, but only as a matter of convenience and economy. Once the iSlate is hacked, and the full Adobe Acrobat Reader is running on it, interactive PDF's will be a reality on tablet PC's. |

Sander, Look at Always Innovating's touchbook. http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/home/index.htm Alpha / Beta product, but really worthwile. Also, in contrary to Google / Apple etc. they have a quite unique open development model of the hardware, which means they use input from their community. At the moment the software is really unstable, and therefore I'd consider it Alpha, though the company itself says it's Beta. Really nice video's. And they're OK with their customers hacking the product. In fact, they encourage it, because the feedback helps them. The first device to bring fridge computing, and detachable keyboard. Would be a great gadget to show at FOSDEM, if only I had the money... |

Quoting:E-reader does not imply E-ink. Nor vice-versa. I wan't talking about all E-readers. I was talking about the Hearst E-reader from the article. That's E-ink and thus not capable of competing with the iSlate. |
