This article covers just FOSS or free as in free beer operating systems. Still, it's an interesting list for those who want to check out different alternatives just for the sake of it. A rich list of apps won't be available for any of these.

In the commercial arena I'd bet most people have never heard of eComStation, put out by Serenity Systems. They probably have heard of the OS by the name it bore when it was an IBM product: OS/2. Yep, kids, OS/2 is still being developed, albeit under a different name. If it wasn't so darned expensive I'd be tempted.

If there was ever a poster child for the "not popular enough to write malware for" crowd, OS/2 is it. Same old (really old) M$ security "technology" but nobody cares.

OS/2 had a Windows compatibility layer. I expect it could catch some M$ malware, the same way Wine can now.
