Tell me how to install it without Mono, that would be the only way I'd be even close to interested.

Meanwhile, I'm quite happy with Krunner, thanks.

a quicklauncher similar to gnome do written in python and gtk i believe

gnome launch-box was the fore runner to gnome do. older but still a nice launcher

Mercury is a minimalist launcher developed for the eeepc linux users. It does not look fancy, but is nice if you have an older or less powerful machine. http://www.marengo-ltd.com/mercury/

Take a look at kupfer its a nice little app.

I use gmrun on my machines. Nice and simple, but has tab completion.
