It goes on for pages and pages, a very good guide. |

Fedora does have nice documentation. Larry Cafiero http://larrythefreesoftwareguy.wordpress.com/ keeps telling me to give Fedora a try. If any distro cried out in the proverbial wilderness for an LTS, it's Fedora. Yes, I know that RHEL is the official LTS, but for desktops RHEL just doesn't have the packages that Fedora has. There was an effort to lengthen Fedora's support, but it didn't last http://news.cnet.com/Long-term-Fedora-Linux-support-ending/2... |

Steven, before you write off RHEL/CentOS/Scientific Linux as unsuitable for the desktop take a look at Dag Wieers' repository. His package quality is consistently excellent and the repo really is quite big. OK, you still won't get anywhere near Debian, Ubuntu, or Mandriva, but it does change the picture quite dramatically. |

I've looked at the Dag Wieers repo, and I'm a bit unsure about how up to date the packages are. |

Steven, the packages, in many cases, can't be up to date because the core libraries used in RHEL are just too old. Since Dag doesn't want to change RHEL into something other than RHEL his hands are tied. Ubuntu LTS has precisely the same issues, as does SLED. |
