I have been reading the posts and responses regarding CentOS with interest. Thought provoking and informative information and thoughts. I am surprised that no one has mentioned Startcom Linux. This is purely curiosity on my part.

My understanding is that StartCom is based on a mix of Fedora and Red Hat and is not a RHEL clone. At least that is the way their website portrays the distro. Look, I'm Israeli-American and I would love to be able to tout some first class Israeli technology but... I was looking for something that truly is a drop-in, 100% compatible replacement for RHEL. StartCom doesn't fit the bill AFAIK.

Thanks, Caitlyn. The Startcom home page definitely says it is based on Red Hat and Fedora code. Your reasoning makes perfect sense.
