Is this supposed to be humorous? |

No, just Ken Hess trolling for page hits. I could go on and on about how Linux isn't really any more complex than Windows and in many ways is actually easier but what would be the point? Joe and Mary User come to Linux when they get frustrated with Windows. If they stick with Linux for a few months they never go back. Do users like those Mr. Hess describes exits? Sure they do. Does that mean that I should stop pointing out the advantages of Linux? Not hardly. I'm also not going to let Ken Hess dictate what I should write or say :) It's just another one of his pointless, silly articles that gets it wrong in lots of ways. |

@caitlyn I agree completely. I personally will not stop advocating Linux... but I also am not really pushy with it, even though some people think I am. FWIW, the argument that you will get forced to be "free tech support" if you are a Linux advocate is slightly backwards. I more often am able to NOT have to provide free tech support because I don't do Windows. |

I actually find this to be a way-above-average Ken Hess post. Whether you take it as satire or not depends on your own view of the issue. |

What kills me about this guy is the following statement: "On the other hand, if you convert them to Linux, you'll have to fix their system free of charge for the rest of your life because you converted them to it." Does not compute. |

> ...if you convert them to Linux, you'll have to fix their system free of charge for the rest of your life because you converted them to it." I've installed two Linux machines over the past few years. I've gotten called a few times on the one install, twice because he forgot the root password and once because the hard drive started failing. I've gotten no calls on the second one. Yeah, that's a lot of support. |

Quoting:you'll have to fix their system free of charge Maybe. But that's hardly "for free". What ever happened to karma points? |

Quoting:you'll have to fix their system free of charge I charge. Sometime I get cash, sometime I get food. We haven' had to buy meat in ages, got a freezer full in fact, and plenty of fresh veges, and free take away when ever we want. |

Yeah, that's a lot of support. I'm in a very similar predicament. I had to fix one, because of a messed up update, the rest no calls. |

My 5-year-old uses a Ubuntu Hardy laptop, and aside from doing a software update maybe once a month and my problem with the main account's password (easily fixed), it's been trouble-free. Oh ... I added Hello Kitty wallpaper. |

Little girls like Hello Kitty ... what can you do? |

Boys like Hello, Kitty, too. On a dartboard or for target practice. |

Quoting:What's wrong with Hello Kitty?I already have slightly elevated blood sugar. Overexposure to H.K. would necessitate an emergency dose of insulin. |

> Overexposure to H.K. would necessitate an emergency dose of insulin. I assume you stay well away from cuteoverload.com then. :) |

And kittenwar.com and puppywar.com. Although http://www.catsthatlooklikehitler.com gets an occasional peruse. |
