I'd been running alpha2 on a couple of test machines, and the last update rendered them both unbootable - glad to see that alpha3 is looking so well. The intel video performance is incredibly improved, and it's running all the desktop effects as if it were a geforce with nvidia proprietary drivers. I even installed open arena from synaptic, then fired it up and played a few minutes online, and was not disappointed. All is forgiven for the crappy intel video performance of jaunty, now that I can finally see the end result of that painful change process. |

re video-- I've been running a Radeon 9550 for a few months now (PCI-e), and so far every distro I've thrown on this machine have liked it just fine. Painless 3D and everything, all with OSS kernel drivers. I'm glad to hear Intel video is shaping up so well, since it's showing up everywhere. |

@tc - good to hear the OSS radeon drivers are in good shape. I had really bad experiences with OpenGL and radeon drivers as late as 2004 (hard lockups etc), and I swore them off, using nvidia ever since. Is it stable? I wonder how it would handle the stress of some 3D FPS gaming... |

Quoting:the last update rendered them both unbootable Wasn't that the update that turned alpha 2 into alpha 3? |

I've got karmic installed on an MSI U100, karmic is the only Linux distribution I've tried with which Wireless and Suspend/Resume will work properly on the MSI. Jaunty and MDV 2009 Spring the wireless doesn't work properly it locates the node but won't lock, but suspend/hibernate work perfectly. EEEBuntu 3.01 the wireless works perfectly, but suspend/hibernate won't work. with Karmic Alpha 2, everything works perfectly. I've not tried it with MDV 2.10 as I haven't managed to get it to install. Probably a faulty burn or download. |

Quoting:Wasn't that the update that turned alpha 2 into alpha 3?Not a chance - they became unbootable a couple weeks ago, and alpha3, which boots and runs well, was yesterday. |

I bought the pack for $10 and tried it out - the game starts up fine, and the sound is fine. I could see the intro and play the tutorial but the games hang at the point of starting the main loop. It came close - perhaps it still may work by the time of the final release. |

@herzeleid: Penumbra is quite a heavy game compared to some. Try switching off a bunch of graphics options in the menu, or try a different game. Cube isn't heavy on graphics. |
