I'd rather use a proper firefox package, e.g for ubuntu one might use this procedure http://www.ubuntumini.com/2009/06/install-firefox-35.html - adjust to suit your distro -

Futzing around with a tarball is for those who have too much time on their hands IMHO.

I don't think using a daily mozilla build is a good idea for normal users as the link above says. I would rather use a released firefox-3.5 package. Have been using this ppa: [url=https://launchpad.net/~fta/ archive/ppa]https://launchpad.net/~fta/ archive/ppa[/url] since 3.5rc1 and has been working flawlessly so far. As a bonus it also provides for alpha chromium for the adventurous ones (doesn't work for me though).
