There have been a lot of arguments in these parts regarding the speed of various distros. It would be nice to use this resource to test those claims on a series of machines and a series of distros. Then at last we could have some hard numbers and specific information on what exactly differs. I notice that Redhat and Suse have signed on but not Ubuntu. The scripts come out in a few days.

Hopefully people seriously comparing distros will attempt to use this.......

Phoronix also does lots of distro benchmarking. I hope they add this to the Phoronix test suite.

There's a vast amount of data on Phoronix, but unfortunately it's scattered over many articles. It would be nice if they put all their benchmarks in one big table.

I guess the difference is that Phoronix is aimed mainly at testing hardware drivers (particularly but not only video) while this new set of benchmarks is aimed specifically at common desktop functions.
