Quoting:Ramdisks are usually spoken of in hushed tones when sysadmins get together.

Funny, I've been a sysadmin long enough that I don't really like to talk about how long that is. I've never heard such a conversation "in hushed tones" even in big shops where sysadmins collaborated a lot and talked frequently.

Quoting:Some view them with awe because of their performance and some view them with skepticism and say they are only useful for creating benchmarks.

Any professional sysadmin knows what a ramdisk is and certainly isn't awed by tried and true technology.

The technical part of this article is fine. The intro is so over the top as to be absurd. This guy should be a fiction writer. On the other hard, maybe not. This is so cliche than no editor worth their salt would accept it.

Pot, meet kettle.

Sorry, caitlyn - I couldn't help but notice the irony.

I didn't use a cliche to open an article for a major Linux magazine, did I? I took a look at my recent paid articles and none opened with over the top fiction, either.

Since they go way back to the DOS days, I'd think so. Actually, I think they go back even farther than that. I believe someone once sold a RAM cartridge for the Tandy Color Computer with drivers to use it as a ramdisk.

I never said that you did. My point was that I found it ironically humorous that you used a cliche to criticize another author for having used a cliche.
