Does anyone know if these codecs are already implemented in any browser. And if so if there are any pages that I can test it out on? |

In fact, I liked the question so much that I just tried Opera 9.52-2069; an old version of 2007 which already had support for pre-html5. http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/a-call-for-video-on-the-w... It supported the examples to 'test out' at the end of the page, but it crashed on openvideo.dailymotion. Currently I'm not (easily) able to test FF3.5, will leave that excercise to some other reader. |

If you install XiphQT ( http://www.xiph.org/quicktime in case lxer.com strips out my link)to tell QuickTime how to handle Ogg files and Vorbis/Theora codecs, and are running the new Safari 4, it will handle the same Ogg Vorbis/Theora files that work in Firefox 3.5 and the latest Opera test builds. (and the hypothetical builds of upcoming Google Chrome, and perhaps upcoming versions of Konqueror.) It worked on the Mac I tested with, anyway. As a bonus, this is a component for quicktime (not just safari), so XiphQT should playback and recording of Ogg Vorbis/Theora files outside of the browser, too (e.g. in iTunes and such). |

Oh, and there are also "DirectShow" plugins for Ogg as well ( http://www.xiph.org/dshow/ ) to enable "Windows Media Player" and other DirectShow-using components to handle Ogg formats and codecs. This is probably moot for HTML5 though, since Microsoft will almost certainly continue to dig in their heels and stamp their little feet, refusing to support the HTML5 audio and video tags since it would undercut the "Silverlight" stuff they're hoping to get people addicted to. (I have no idea how ActiveX works - could an "ActiveX" plugin add HTML 5 support?) |

DrDubious. I'm not sure an ActieX plugin can implement all of HTML5, but it certainly can add support for the audio/video tags and Ogg playback support. |

But I'm not sure the version I mentioned is the latest (10.00-4440 seems to be, but maybe other beta/alpha's are made). Firefox 3.6 wouldn't compile yesterday as well (Gentoo problem, file-collission with xulrunner; will have a look again shortly). |

Ya just got opera running for the same version on FreeBSD. HTML5 is not enabled. |
