Maybe because... 1) Some people are being paid by Microsoft to say good things about Bing 2) As the article aludes some people just like everything new and "shiny" (magazine product reviewers). 3) Some people just have no taste... :-) |

Well, I have to admit it is an alternative to Google. If it gives the same results as Google, if for some reason at midnight Google disappears or you decide you no longer want to use Google, it's good to have an alternative. I have been trying not to use Google from time to time due to privacy concerns, but never succeeded for longer than a week or so. What I really wonder is what changed between Live Search / MSN search and Bing. Or was it only the name? |

Hans: If it gave unbiased results I might agree with you. However, the entire concept of Bing is that it decides which information you want for you. It gives you the world through Microsoft corporate glasses. Thanks but no thanks. Cuil, Mooter, WebCrawler, etc.... are better alternatives. |

I always liked Bob more than Bing, but Bing did get the girls. When it comes to Crooners, no one beets Alfalfa! He always made Darla swoon. Not that this has anything to do with Microsoft, but the Bob and Bing parallel does make me smile. |

> I always liked Bob more than Bing... Which reminds me, _The Ghost Breakers_ has a wonderful commentary about zombies in it. But back on topic, I tried Bing and at least there were more than 5 results for "Windows to Linux Migration". They are trying to capitalize upon Google's text-based results page, but their root page still loads flash. Yuck. I guess I'll just try it off and on and see if the porn results are better. |

> 1) Some people are being paid by Microsoft to say good things about Bing I've always wondered how you could get in on that deal myself. I guess Microsoft has to consider you someone of influence to make it worth paying you. Oh well, there goes my retirement plan... |

Bing 'Linux' and then Google 'Linux' -
Both will limit you to the first 1000 entries. Both return much the same results (I didn't see any MS bias against Linux in this particular search.) Searching for "boy scouts merit badge cards" will also return much the same results as well. What I wanted was to find a source of supply and cost of the "blue cards" and neither Google nor Bing returned an appropriate result in the first page. Bing claimed to have over 270,000 hits, while Google only claimed to have 37,700 hits - but that's irrelevant as you can't see past the first 1,000 on either site. Both sux as far as "intelligent searching" goes. |

Quoting:I always liked Bob more than Bing... If Microsoft Bob is a better product than Microsoft Bing I'd say Bing has no future at all. Bob sure didn't last long. |

Quoting:Bob sure didn't last long.But he did. I'm sure you're familiar with Clippy. |

From the for-what-it's-worth dept.: Thirteen minutes ago, as of this writing, Bing sent my first web hit. |

I even know a few people who liked Clippy :) Yes, such people really do exist. That was part of Bob, yes, but it wasn't the whole Bob experience. As a distinct product Bob was put out of its misery very quickly. |

It looks like you are attempting to build a thermonuclear device. Is it based on: o Uranium? o Plutonium? o Hydrogen? o A custom-designed element? [ Construct ] [ Cancel ] |

gus3: I was so very tempted to make a political comment but I held my (virtual) tongue. OK, it would have been a humorous comment, but still... |

I bet Bing is dreaming of a white Christmas. Personally I'd rather be swinging on a star. Ok, not funny, but I tried. :) |
