I missed this 'argument'

Quoting:"In almost every Slashdot story that has a Linux vs. Windows angle, some users point out a distinct feature of Windows that they find useful: a reasonably stable application binary interface for device drivers," Damian Yerrick, a Slashdot blogger based in Fort Wayne, Ind., told LinuxInsider. "This lets makers of add-on hardware that connects to a PC through PCIe or USB include a driver for the last couple LTS versions of Windows on a disc (currently Vista and XP) bundled with a piece of hardware." LOL How is that an advantage over Linux, where the kernel developers will write the driver for you? And how the heck is that an advantage related to the "ready for the desktop" argument? |

Isn't that the age-old complaint that Linux doesn't work hard enough to make vendors of closed, proprietary binaries happy? |

I kind of miss the point of the LinuxInsider article entirely, except for maybe throwing stones at Carla for daring to "rile" the blogosphere. |

That's not throwing stones, that's giving me due recognition for my mad skillz in riling the blogosphere. It's very difficult to do that and it requires great finesse and subtlety. |

> ...recognition for my mad skillz in riling the blogosphere. Your are aware that mad has multiple meanings, more than one of which could apply in this case? :) > It's very difficult to do that and it requires great finesse and subtlety. Finesse, yes. :) Curiosity compels me, did you actually expect this firestorm when you posted your article? I didn't expect my comment on your article to have the results it did. |

Quoting:I kind of miss the point of the LinuxInsider article entirely As far as I can tell there is no point - intentionally. It's just someone who has even more time than I have (how can it be, I'm unemployed!) to read all those gazillion threads on several sites and after that write a nice summary. I'm thankful they wrote that summary, because I don't have time to read all comments on Slashdot. |

Well even if you're unemployed, it sure is good that you can get those unemployment benefits from your government. /not serious{cf http://lxer.com/module/forums/t/29174/} |

jdixon, it was a bit surprising. I thought it was one of those 'well duh' type of deals-- the sun rises, water is wet, and the MS turfers and trollers are legion. |

If it's a LinuxInsider article I won't be reading it anyway, I refuse to be insulted by the full page advertisement that greets you, before you are allowed to read their swill. |
