Actually the worst problems I experienced with Ubuntu Jaunty and Mandriva 2009.1 were with 3D acceleration. 2D was slow as well but with the 3D effects in KDE there were weird screen artifacts (i.e.: vertical lines across parts of the display, like the menus) and really horrendous performance. For me the solution was to go back to a distro with an older Intel driver. That includes Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy), Slackware 12.2, Vector Linux 6.0, etc... Just fixing 2D isn't enough. |
