I built a Linux box recently with an AMD Phenom II 940 Black Edition... I don't normally overclock processors, but the AM2+ case/mobo that I picked (one of those little Shuttle "shoe box" cases) didn't recognize the Phenom II automatically so I had to enter the speed settings manually and when I did it the first time I calculated wrong and clocked it at 3.5GHz instead of the stock 3.0GHz. It ran reliably at that speed so after checking a couple of lower settings I put it back to 3.5GHz and it has been running stably there for a couple of months now. Have to say that so far the Phenom II 940 has cut through every bit of work I've tried like a knife through warm butter. The price was pretty reasonable too... |
