It's a brilliant move now but if say a method to compromise that update for malicious purposes were produced it would instantly become the "most obviously stupid thing anyone could have done".

I've removed Chrome from my Windows work machine, simply because there were these strange Google services that I had no prior knowledge of, running in the background. I now know what they are, or were, as Chrome has been removed, never to revisit my work machine again, so long as I have control of it..
