I'm reminded of the 'Net as outlined in _Emerald Eyes_ and _The Long Run_.

Censored, controlled, locked down.

Whatta ya mean!?! Without broadband, you'd never get "Comcast Searchlight", the LAME LAME LAME internet substitute that Comcast thinks its customers are stupid enough to buy into. Just hit eight-eight-eight on your Comcast remote, and you will be delivered on a platter to Comcast's megacorporate cronies! In return, you'll get a LAME, watered-down, commercially-sponsered, clean, well-light, slow and corporate browsing experience, in any one of the 10 categories that Comcast thought it could get buttoned-down corporate sponsors, and wouldn't cost too much bad PR.

I've been wondering since about 1999 what the Cable and Telcos will do to get TCP/IP removed, and some protocols with real distinctions between "client" and "server" in place. "Increased security" was one of the channels I thought might be used.
