Everything in this article and everything I've seen written about the merger is all speculation at this point. I'm taking a wait and see attitude to all this. MySQL and OpenOffice.org could both be forked and go on without Oracle if need be. We saw X.org fork from XFree86 and effectively all but replace the original. The same could happen in either of these cases. |

That's the beauty of it all, aside from a bunch of competing database products, any funny business will result in probably more than one fork. As for OO, I'd love to see KOffice get better and for other projects to do better as well. |
