I can't figure it out, but sometimes the pages at http://www.computerworlduk.com consume 100% of my CPU. I closed the tab and reopened it and now it doesn't. Under Slackware 12.1 it was crashing konqueror, now konq 3.5.10 doesn't crash but it has the cpu usage issue.

A misnomer or just an off target subject line? Don't you mean Computer World UK pages and not the blog specifically? Your link took me a page where his blog was just listed across the top. The page is obviously filled with advertisements and likely flash, both of which seem more likely to be the cause ther problems you describe.

Try Firefox with ad and flash blocking along with NoScript add ons and you should find the performance acceptable. I stopped monitoring CPU usage once I upgraded from Firefox 1.5 to 2.0, where it was a very significant problem.

Most Web sites these days are giant craptastic collections of suck. Why is it, in this era of copy-n-paste, do Web devs only copy crappy page code? Site after site sends my CPU into the red zone and bogs down my whole PC. You may also have noticed the exciting new trends of overlapping text and overlapping ads, so that anyone who wants to read the actual content has to give up and go read books or something.

I find these days with imdb that it freezes up the whole browser for quite some time. Same with multimap. The Glyn Moody blog is mid in comparison to those two.

Do you have a little CPU usage program you can recommend btw?

DiBosco: Digg is even worse. That's about the only site I visit that manager to slow Iceweasel to a crawl.

DiB...,

Not necessary small, because it monitors so many different system issues, you could try GKrellM http://members.dslextreme.com/users/billw/gkrellm/gkrellm.ht... that happens to be one application I miss.

* Failed to work for me on 6.06 and on 5.10 some of the temperatures reported were too low by 10 degrees centigrade. Or that was the differences I saw as reported by the bios vs GKrellM. [Still have to try it on the current 8.04 version I am running.]

Sander,

If you mean the searches or shifting the view I agree, however, I rarely visit Digg.

Try just turning off the plugins. Even on my ancient system, with flash turned off the browsing is quite speedy.
