it would be catastrophic

Real devs would die laughing, or fall into the spaghetti and be smothered to death. At all costs do not let them look at Windows code. |

Don't worry, TC, it will never happen. And FWIW, most real devs would know better than to look at MS code anyway. Witness how few people have ever taken them up on their "shared source" deals for Windows. Most people can spot a trap when they see it. |

They won't do it, ever, because to release that code would be to admit that "OpenSource" was worthy in regards to Windows. Much better that it just vanish into the memory hole. By the time it might be an issue, it will be obsolete. |

And they can't even do what most vendors would do and release their old code (Win98SE, for example) as freeware, because if they did no one would pay for the current versions. In fact that's almost exactly the problem they're having right now with XP and Vista. |

I think you're all wrong.
It would be a tremendous benefit for free software developers. It would greatly expand their view of the IT landscape. You might even say it would open up new vistas. |

AUGH dino. You just HAD to say it. NO self-restraint at all. Think of the children. *mutter grumble* |

It could serve as a bad example for the children. "Mothers, don't let your children grow up to be Windows users...." |
