Nice article tc. I have a large set of bookshelfs as well with a stack of linux books (including yours ;-)). Given the often user unfriendly nature of much FOSS documentation they are pretty important. It is interesting how this can change with the age of the project. I am a big fan of lyx for writing papers and the user manuals for this are a really nice set of docs. This squares with that project being quite old by FOSS standards. |

I am lucky in that I have all my books up and out on shelves in my beautiful little bungalow, as I like to call it. I am certain that Carla's collection beats the you know what out of mine though. That's ok, I have time to catch up.. |

Quoting:I am lucky in that I have all my books up and out on shelves Lucky you. My girlfriend and I have over 2000 books but only shelf space for a hundred or so. The rest is all boxed up waiting until we can buy a new house that has space for a library. |

Well Scott, I don't know about beating anyone else's collection. I have pretty lowbrow tastes :). Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, the Conan series, lots of sci-fi, horror, mysteries, comics. Lots of howtos, I hate not knowing how to do things myself. The Foxfire books are cool, real back-to-scratch stuff for when civilization falls. Hog dressing, making soap, building large structures with no metal fasteners, homespun, all that fun stuff that our ancestors did and that is why even if they had TVs, they never would have had time to watch them. |

A true Renaissance woman... and knowing how to use Firefox when civilization falls will be a good thing, definitely. |

And the hogs will be well-dressed. |

TC, sounds alot like my collection, although it's been a long time since I read anything about fat freddies cat. My favorite how-to though came as a sci-fi story, it incorporated making air filters, water filters, and toilet paper (how many of you know what to do when civilization collapses and the TP runs out?) all in a neat sci-fi survival story. Several authors have done a book or two like that, Heinliens 'Farnhams Freehold' and Gordon R Dicksons 'Wolf and Iron' to name two. |
