How about this, instead...

The partisans for whom the user "wins". I have the choice of operating systems. I don't buy shoes or shirts based on how many other people use them. Linux does everything I need it to do, the number of others using it is irrelevant. Considering that it's easier to do just about anything with Linux than with Windows, and I have no hardware problems, I have already "won". The only advantage of more users would be better support from hardware manufacturers, but that's not an issue, so I honestly could care less how many people use Linux. As to the main point of the article, which is the reason for my post...it wasn't clear. I read it twice, what am I missing? |

The article is confused. It starts out talking about IBM's virtual linux desktop for the enterprise, then veers into a rant about the consumer-level desktop, and how because it can't run Photoshop is teh stupid, and so on. I've noticed a trend this month of pretty cruddy pieces like this, like they're in a hurry to get out and do their holiday shopping. Or look for another job, or desperately try for more clicks, or something. |

Your right Carla, I have noticed it as well, but. What I have been seeing is a trend of this past year, and an overall increase of them since noticing it. There are more people writing about Linux and FOSS than ever but that does not explain away the increase of FUD and just good old fashion bad writing. I'm not sure I want to know why though; I may not like the answer..;-) |

It's probably a mixture Scott, though I'm leaning more towards ordinary bad writing. Linux/FOSS is finally hitting mainstream tech media and mainstream news media, which is cool even if it a lot of is factually-challenged. It's not like overall quality has declined.... ;) |

No, it's not cool. Shouting bullshit into a microphone is dangerous. The more popular Linux gets, the more we will have to continually overcome FUD before we can even get the point. I'm certainly not fond of beating my head against the wall. The article was lame from the get-go. |

The FUD isn't increasing. Overall Linux coverage is increasing. I'd say that the FUD/non-FUD ratio is about the same as always. The main problem for Linux coverage has always been that the quality pieces are usually on small websites and the FUD pieces come from the bigger media. |

Whoa, I need to get more sleep. I thought TC wrote "desperately try for more chicks", and Machiner wrote "The article was lame from the apt-get." Sleep. Definitely sleep. |

Quoting:I thought TC wrote "desperately try for more chicks" Oh no, you've been on the Debian-dev list again whole night? Stop it Bob; and go back to bed! |

I'll agree to that Sander, but it doesn't make me feel any better..;-) |
