This could be good for the Linux gaming community if they release under a decent license. |

Not 100% sure how his would best benefit FOSS. The Myst games/universe has always succeeded based on the story, lore, and puzzles, not so much the actual game engine. An open-source MystOnline though, might possibly open the way for a lot of Free MMO-type games to be developed. Either way, good on them for even doing it. EDIT: Ok! I figured it out... (I read the actual article, d'oh) Cyan are hoping that open sourcing would help breathe life into the project itself. I imagine they would still charge a subscription to their own data server, which is fine. I see this as an opportunity. If it works as they are hoping it would; that it would get ported to many platforms, and they would again get subscriptions, then it would actually be a good demonstration that gee golly this open source thing ain't so bad for business. |

Little by little the gaming industry is catching on, I will be visiting the gaming area of CES while I am there as well. |
