I've been playing with Cacti on the lan here for a couple months and really like it. The feature to create a set of static graph pages is quite useful.

I used these daily, especially Cacti, Nagios, ntop, and Snort. Sometimes these tools can be live savers, especially if you see problems in your customers' networks (via VPN), before they do.

An interesting side-note: for a Snort sniffer on the extranet, just cut the "talking" wires of a normal RJ45 cable, and it will be completely invisible to the outside world. Take a second NIC to connect back into your LAN to talk to the syslog machine.

@wjl: That has to be one of the neatest hardware hacks ever. Packets check in, but they don't check out. I will definitely keep that one for my arsenal.
