I wish I followed all of it all of the time. But then I wouldn't be human, would I.

tracyanne, you put it very well. The best any of us can do is to try our best to be helpful.

The main reason I ended up using Vector Linux as my main desktop Linux distro isn't because it's technically superior to anything else. OK, it's very good in a lot of ways, but is it really the best out there? I could list a number of really good distros that I think are very worthwhile and would work equally well for me. What I like about Vector is the community. The regulars really do seem to try and live what is being preached in this article. They are friendly, helpful, and the developers take feedback and even criticism from the user community seriously and work to solve whatever is being complained about.

When a newbie comes to Linux a lot of his or her reaction to the OS and the learning curve is going to be based on how he or she is treated by us, the community.

Community matters a lot more than many of us would like to acknowledge.

Educating new users about all the tools at their disposal is one of the best things we can do. That means the tools (man pages, FAQs, Wikis, forums, hardware compatibility lists, PDF'd manuals) need to be actively maintained and getting better all the time.

I like that article, I just gave it a permalink off my blog site.

There are some reminders that all of us could use to have beaten into us on occasion.
