Plymouth really impresses me. Not the plugins per-se, but the way that the boot is flicker free. And especially how the boot splash simply fades into the login screen. Impressive!

I must give it a test-drive. Red Hat's bootup used to drive me crazy. Back when it was still Red Hat Linux (8 or 9, I think) it didn't just flicker, it turned my monitor on and off a half-dozen times before it got to the GDM login, CLICK CLICK CLICK and I thought it was going to damage my monitor. So I blew it away, installed Mandrake, and wasted my life playing Tux Racer.

Or, just remove the "rhgb" boot parameter, and then it won't switch to graphics mode until the display manager starts.
