I followed the links through to the Sun Microsystems website, and the projects has been inactive for some time.

Lets all thank our various deities for that!

"Open Source DRM" is truly an epic oxymoron.

Playing devil's advocate, would something like this increase the likelyhood of getting BBC iPlayer on Linux?

No, because the BBC head technologist has sold out to Microsoft. iPlayer is not about technology, it's about playing favours. Technically there is nothing which would prevent the iPlayer to be Linux-based, even without this "open source DRM".

Thanks, Sander. I have contacted the Beeb a few times when they've had "experts" on radio shows talking about iPlayer and DRM to ask about a Linux player. Unsurprisingly they have ignored my questions and comments each time.
