I didn't read the article, but since Chrome needs an OS to run on, and officially it only runs on windows, how can Chrome be a threat to Windows market share? |

It could be a threat to Office, which is half of MS' money making ability. Though Chrome is superfluous to Google apps, yes they do work on Chrome, but they also work on other browsers. Which may be why MS is trying to make Live profitable, because they see the future bringing huge declines in revenue from Windows and Office from competitors like Linux, Apple, OpenOffice, Google apps, etc. As open standards are pushed more and more, and adopted by Governments and Businesses, competition will arise and the extend tactic will not work so well, because the extended version wont be compatible so it wont be bought, it will probably take a while. But with MS leaving a bad taste in many mouths today, tomorrow looks good for competition. |
