Quoting:Oracle and Red Hat representatives questioned during this week's Oracle OpenWorld conference in San Francisco offered strikingly different perspectives on how well Oracle's plan has worked out.

Red Hat: We don't see a difference. People must not like Oracle. Oracle: We're booming! Red Hat beware!

Reality: Oracle just generates new business. It's not steeling customers from Red Hat but creating a new market for it's "Unbreakable Linux".

Conclusion: This is healthy for Linux as a whole.

Yes, having another high-end Linux vendor making money is indeed a good thing. Particularly a company that spits so much venom towards Microsoft.

Much as I like to see oracle succeed in its turf war with microsoft, I am a bit disappointed in oracle ability to play well with other linux vendors. Oracle doesn't IMHO really show much understanding of whole concept of "linux community" at this point...

My company reviewed a new ERP solution about a month ago. Although it's a Windows application, the database is Oracle running on Red Hat.
