Got two from the G1G1 offer. Grandkids love them, they beat the crap out of them, miss use them in many ways, those suckers just will not break. My 12 year-old grandson is a clever lad and has learned to do some nifty things with his OLPC XO. I hope his parents don't find out.

Out in the Third-World it is doing a great job, not always as was pictured by designers, but it is being use and over all the vote is on the plus side.

Lets see whats next.

From my experiance with the one I got, anything productive prior to gutting the thing and installing a different OS would be a pretty neat trick. Granted after I did, it runs as print/scanner server, RAS/SSH, internal webserver, File Server, and handles an internal VNCserver.

The other trick was slapping an 80 gig jump drive on it and giving it a 1 gig swap partition on it with the rest for file storage. That 1 gig swap really improved performance.

Well, efficient productivity isn't exactly the design goal of the XO.

Well, you know how it is when kids get to use their imaginations? The 12 Y/O kid took a college level math class this summer so there is potential. He can play with programming and stuff like that, learning a bit of network admin (spy) stuff. It is his to break or hack or whatever. Just enough freedom but still being watched by mom and dad.

And Grandpa can send him links. Science, games, SiFi and weird! No, I haven't told him about LXer, he is JUST a kid.
