No. She wants a laptop/desktop which is guaranteed Linux compatible. She'll immediately reload it with Mandriva, of course.

hah. Exactly one of the main reasons I bought a ZaReason. Besides supporting a good group of people, I knew that I would be able to unbox it and load up gentoo with minimal hassle. :) (Of course, I still have the Ubuntu install on it - they happily custom partitioned the disk for me, I just never boot it)

Somehow, "Gentoo" and "minimal hassle" don't quite sound right that close together. ;-)

Has anyone from Australia written to Dell and asked them why they're not offering their Ubuntu-based systems to said country?

thenixed, yes, I got no reply.

I also spoke to the highest level person I could get to, at Dell Australia, Actually it's in South East Asia. I was told they are a customer focused company, and as such only supply what the customer wants. That was last year. I'm sure I wrote about it on Lxer.

@cabreh, what jd said.

Interestingly I recieved my Dell catalog today, lots and lots of really neat stuff in it except for one thing. There is no mention of Linux being available anywhere in it. Way to tote that bale Dell.

G@3,

Yes it's officially known as an oxymoron, e.g. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/oxymoron

For those that hate links:
Quoting:A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined, as in a deafening silence and a mournful optimist.
