The same could be said of Mandriva 2008.1, and Mandriva 2009.0 promises to be even more boring.

My main machine is on Debian Etch. I'm lucky if I get an automated update every other week. Talk about boredom! My laptop runs Lenny, which is currently much more "interesting" to play with. Hardly a week goes by that the Lenny's update manager can't perform some updates because dependencies are shifting around. I actually have to open a *real* package manager and hit "update" in there to get that fixed. How exciting is that!

What? You don't have apt-get update; apt-get upgrade crontabed?

Yeah, TA, I've even tried to make 2008.1 exciting by installing a whole boatload of crap on it, but I can't break the monotony no matter how hard I try.

If you're bored, try holding down the power button for about 5 seconds. Definitely out of the ordinary!

No. I like to glance over the list of packages that are going to be upgraded so that I know what's going on. If I'm waiting for something particular I might even check out the changelog before I commit myself. (xserver-xorg-video-intel, I am looking at you).

Besides, the correct command would be "apt-get dist-upgrade" in this case :-)

Well, I can see why you don't put that one in the crontab. :) And yes, I should have put a smiley after my comment. Though I may go ahead and crontab slackpkg update; slackpkg upgrade-all on my desktop machine one of these days.

Personally I like the newest package managers command 'equo world'.

Although if your looking for something not so boring, Sabayon Pod, A Gentoo derivative that ships without portage installed. It can be added, and is supported, but it's not needed.

I'll get my smiley out of the way early

;|)

After about six months with Debian Lenny on my Gateway Laptop, today I booted Debian Etch with Xfce on my VIA C3 test box, and with Iceweasel 2.x, everything working and a piddly three updates with Aptitude, I miss Stable enough to roll back the laptop.
