I never take any article seriously which contains the classic MacHead incantation 'repeat after me'.

But this one is truly terrible. Maybe I am doing it an injustice, having read it too rapidly in a state of great irritation after those idiotic introductory words. But it seems to be encouraging people to run e-Macs, one of the crappiest bits of hardware ever introduced, on the grounds that there is something wrong with X that makes Joe appear unusably different on one distro from another. I'd need to see a screen shot to believe it, but even then the answer is, pick one on which Joe looks the way you like.

As to the claim that Joe is supreme as a writer's editor. No accounting for taste, but he does not condescend to tell us why its better than Leo, Kate, Gedit or Geany. Is it? I'd need persuading, with examples.

Maybe he should try repeating things after some more sensible person than his present choice for a while. Or, radical idea, stop repeating things after anyone, look hard at the real world instead, try thinking for yourself.

Steve Jobs makes sure there's one part of Macintosh that won't ever be like Linux:

The license.

Quoting:A computer is just a tool. It is only so good as it serves to make life better for users. A "better" life is obviously not the same thing for everyone. For me, it means making my Mac more like Linux,

IF you are going to go to all that trouble of making a Mac look like Linux , why not just get a Linux OS and be done with it. After all "A computer is just a tool", so why not get the better tool instead of trying to make the inferior tool look like the better tool.
