When this story first broke some months ago, it was "Barracuda Defends Open Source!" Now it's a rather different focus. Was Barracuda canny in framing it as an attack on open source? At least in the court of public opinion, they won many allies by doing that. IANAL and all that, but US patents are from the planet Bizarro. What's not obvious about gateway scanning, and why does it take a lawsuit to prove it? Head hurts. Me go back to simple life now. No lawyers here. |

TC -- The thing that isn't obvious about gateway scanning is this: |

Irony: Last sentence of TC's post - No lawyers here. - Immediately followed by a post from a lawyer. :) |

Oh No! Dino is a Chicago type. So the only conclusion is that he changed professions to become either a mobster or a crooked politician. Having lived in Chicago, the other easy option is a corrupt cop, but after Law school that is too far a step down. Dino say it's not so ... let's hear you were just kidding and you are still a sleazy lawyer. Ok? Your buddy Txt. |

Politicians aren't corrupt in Chicago, they just engage in 'enhanced' techniques of representation of constituents. |

6x - Politicians cannot be corrupt in Chicago. The standard is too high. It would take hiring your baby nephew as personal assistant to your dead uncle who is in charge of overseeing the squadron of city workers who tend to your lawn and baby-sit your children except for "Rita" who is straightens out the master bedroom while your wife is out and you are home to see how progress is coming on the new addition that the city is building on your house. Nah. Now that I think about it, that's just run of the mill "doing business". I can't imagine what you would have to do to actually be corrupt by Chicago standards, but I'll bet it's impressive. |

dino, I think you just described the state tollway system under DuPage County's Phillip's brothers. Or maybe the Cook County Board deciding on a forest preserve contract. I'd mention how corrupt the Illinois State government was, but since all the last crew got kicked out or jailed, I didn't think we had a state government any longer. I mean, have you seen the state government accomplish anything in the last few years? I think that young boy named Rod something or other is back delivering pizzas in my neighborhood again. No compared to all those amateurs, most Chicago politicians rise above the label of "corrupt". They need a new word, not yet coined in English, to describe what they do! :) |

>> Former lawyer. I am now a useful and productive member of society. Ok, now THAT made me laugh. :D EDIT: On reflection, that sounded bad. I was laughing at the juxtaposition of lawyer and productive citizen. I was not in any way questioning your status. Sorry if it sounded like I was. |

NoDough -- Apologize if you cut off one of my arms or mistreat my dog. Otherwise, don't sweat it. |
