I think it would be cute and ironic to buy a macbook pro, install linux, then tweak it to look like leopard. Maybe someday if I have too much time & money on my hands... |

None of the links in the article work - it could be that the apple fuzz busted them. |

people cheer something like this and then bring fire and brimstone down on those trying to make their desktop look like Vista. Stupid if you think about it. I for one won't make a clone of either of the proprietary desktops. |

Quoting: people cheer something like this and then bring fire and brimstone down on those trying to make their desktop look like Vista. What you translate as "fire and brimstone" is most likely merely disdain IMHO. A lot of the artistic crowd think OSX represents the pinnacle of style and coolness. I prefer linux for many reasons, but I can certainly understand their point of view, and I'll grant them them OSX is cool. It certainly works well in a unix environment, the OSX command line is the real deal, and the desktop looks nice. Vista IMHO seems the epitome of dorkiness. It's microsoft screaming "look at me! I'm cool too, see?" The vast majority of vista users are doing so simply because they are unaware that they have a choice in the matter. Of course you can find microsoft fanboys hyping vista and swearing to it's greatness, but that crowd is always rather predictable. I just don't see the attraction of microsoft OSes, and haven't seen anything interesting or cool from them since before nt 3.1 - to me microsoft is mostly an annoyance and little else. So I can't imagine wanting to copy the appearance of vista, which looks to me like bits copied and cobbled together from selected pieces of OSX and the various linux desktop environments. YMMV of course. |

I like the look of Vistar...that's the only thing I like, and it really does run like tar even on screaming hardware. |

being a fan of the metal look, I have went to the trouble of using alien to make a deb file from the rpm metal4kde...I believe it was mac that made the look popular...all the while I never realized this...just thought it looked cool. PCLinuxOS and mandriva have it in the repos and as of late, you can find the deb on kdelook.org. If that's "cloning" a Mac, then I'm guilty...I think it does metal much better than the Bagira style that it replaced. |

Quoting:people cheer something like this and then bring fire and brimstone down on those trying to make their desktop look like Vista. The only time I ever heard that complaint was from Windows users. "See? He really just wants Windows. He's even made his Linux look like Vista! See, Vista is better!". I've never heared one Linux geek flame another about his Compiz theme. |
