The article glosses over why Netscape failed. It's not correct to blame Microsoft- Netscape the company made a lot of mistakes which made it easy for the redmond bully boys to push IE to the top. MS made IE very Web developer-friendly, and developed all kinds of non-standard IE guff that let Web developers build advanced sites and application servers. Netscape was this big steaming pile of spaghetti and they were not at all friendly to Web developers. They weren't keeping up with what users wanted either, so it wasn't that hard for MS to shoot them down. |
