I lived in Massachusetts, and I'm not surprised. I also no longer live in Massachusetts. In Massachusetts, an individual has a "duty to retreat", which means if someone breaks into my home, I have to leave. If he backs me into a corner and attacks me with his hands, and I hit him with a stick to defend myself, I have used "disproportionate force" and am prosecutable for assault. But whatever you do, don't get a State Trooper mad at you. |
