It will take less time to convert locally than it will take to upload/download. Using ffmpeg makes conversions trivially easy. And your ISP won't cap your connection for exceeding a threshold for uploads. |

ffmpeg is too complicated for most people. But yeah, this service seems little more than a viral for their paid-for suite. Perhaps someone should create a simple GUI frontend for ffmpeg. |

I found SUPER (ugly site warning) http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html when I was searching for an easy to use video converter for use in Windows for someone at the college. It's a fairly decent front end to the foss encoders for those poor windows folks. |

Yeah, that's a pretty hoprrible site. And I thought the official Whitesnake website was bad (http://www.whitesnake.com if you dare). But at least the Windows users have a front-end. A quick scan around Synaptic reveals no such thing for Linux (at least not prepackaged). |
