I am not sure why would any one want to go through this if you can get everything you would ever need for a web server by downloading XAMPP. Make sure you read all documentation, which is very concise but excellent and sufficient . Ooops, I just realized that they are addressing MS-SQL, that is MicroSoft SQL Server module not MySQL.
Any how, the information above is still beneficial for those who don't want MS-SQL |

Agree that XAMPP makes life easier, even the one for Windows works as well as software can work on Windows. |
