Am I missing something?

This looks like a good piece of hardware. However, there is no mention of Linux compatibility, only "Developed to natively support the latest applications using Microsoft Direct X® 10 and Shader Model 4.0, for a whole new generation of performance, this series brings new meaning to the Windows Vista Premium Experience." |

Looks like a re-badged ATI Radeon with windows driver only support. It will probably take a while for the linux driver to catch up (careful understatement). Mind you I read somewhere that AMD intends open sourcing their drivers at some point. |

"Mind you I read somewhere that AMD intends open sourcing their drivers at some point." Yeah, I was pretty excited about that too until I started digging a bit to see what was on the other side of the AMD announcement/hype. Unfortunately, I found it. "“First Henri announced that AMD will be rolling out a gold master image of Windows Vista for deployment throughout the company as a sign of their confidence over the stability and performance of Windows Vista with a combination of their hardware and software support.” http://enterpriselinuxlog.blogs.techtarget.com/2007/05/09/am... When you stop to remember how much Vista has invested in the Trusted Computing Module and DRM, I am of a mind to wash my hands of the whole thing. Don't we have a project cooking somewhere that is working on OUR OWN video card and driver...divorced from any influence of the Intel/amd/Nvidia/ATI alliances? Oh, Let me guess. It is stalled due to a lack of funding. I hope to heaven people start waking up here fairly soon. h |

So, AMD can't release open source ATI drivers because they use Vista??? |

sander: That sounds about right. Many OEM's had to write spec's just for Vista if I am not mistaken. |

jezuch: No, he's talking about OGP which should give us a fully Free card -- both hardware as software. http://wiki.duskglow.com/tiki-index.php?page=Open-Graphics Scott: That's not my point. My point is that it's a silly idea that a company cannot release open source drivers because they use Vista to read mail, surf the web and write some Windows software. What's next? People can't release code because they wrote it on MacOSX? (Speaking of which, anyone seen the new iMac's? It's a 24" monitor + wireless keyboard and mouse. The PC hardware is built into the monitor. Sweeeet. I'd love one of those (to run Linux :-) -- http://www.apple.com/imac/) |

Is there a fund raising project in that. I wonder what sort of reception I'd get if i started posting about the need to donate money to this project on a certain mailing list. |
