My beef with this writeup is that it says that says that, "Actually it was more of a rant than an announcement", i.e. it was a rant on a mailing list. He did not publicize it. It is click hungry "journos" like this one who are stirring up a storm.

And the whole core of most of the replies on that list was to attack ESR about what he was doing wrong but nowhere did anyone acknowledge that out of all those complaints, maybe a couple might be rightful gripes.

Actually ESR did publicize this for all he was worth. He spammed every tech journalist he could find, which is standard procedure for him.

When someone has a hundred bogus complaints, and a couple of legitimate ones, do you really think the legitimate ones are going to get much attention?
